Cow Competition, Rodeo Austin – Austin, Texas

Beyond the large arena and the past poultry and livestock displays are the cows, neatly arranged in multiple rows with metal dividers. They take up a significant part of the show barn. From the outsider’s perspective, it appears to be a cow competition, though I have no idea about the judgment criteria.

Much energy is used to keep the cows and the area clean — tiring for sure. I walk around documenting street photography style. It’s not unlike the covered markets in India — a foreign world — though with much fewer people.

Here are some images I captured with my Sony A7C and 28mm f2 lens. I clearly didn’t belong there, not in a bad way, but you didn’t see people with a dedicated camera walking around. Nobody seemed to care as I snapped my images with a comparably small device. I finish with a picture of the arena, filled with competing cows led on a leash.
