Pig Pen, Rodeo Austin – Austin, Texas

In the livestock area of the show barn, near the cute chicks I featured yesterday, we have some pigs getting attention. Like I speculated yesterday, I think these livestock and poultry areas were there to educate city folk about where our food comes from — a mystery for many these days as our urban life further disconnects us from the farm.

I always get a kick out of visitors with cowboy hats. Are they really from the ranching community, or are they dressed for the occasion? I don’t know enough about the world to make a guess.

My knowledge of pigs is also very sparse. Why is the big mama covered with thick hair? Are these pigs or hogs? I didn’t see much documentation on the pens. I suppose most people won’t care enough to read the descriptions anyway.
