2024 Chinese New Year – Austin, Texas
For this second post of this mini-series on the 2024 Chinese New Year, I feature three decisive moments. The term “Decisive Moment” is attributed to Photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, a master street photographer. While these are not street photographs, and I use technology to achieve these instead of years of muscle memory, I think I captured some compelling scenes.
I used the Sony A7C, as I’ve been doing for the last year, and the Sigma 85mm f1.4. In yesterday’s post, I mentioned how I was going for maximum shallow depth of field to blur the background as much as possible.
Today’s pictures use Sony’s noteworthy face and eye detection capabilities. I set the camera to continuous focus to track the people and fired single shots at opportune times.
All three pictures benefitted from the available technology, required some coordination, and a fair bit of luck. The dancer was surprisingly hard to capture, especially with a worthwhile gesture. The easiest was the acrobatics from the martial artist, only because her trajectory was easy to follow.
